We're all really not that different

My roommate Nella and I have had several bonding moments this week. We watched the newest addition to both of our Disney libraries (aka Tangled which is an awesome movie!). But nothing beats the bonding moment we had tonight. She was downing shots of some alcoholic beverage before going out with some of her friends and I was using the blender to make a chocolate milkshake.
I was pouring my newly mixed creation into my favorite glass when my roommate remarked, "You know Jessie, we have the same coping mechanism."
I took the bait and asked, "What might that be?"
"You drink chocolate milkshakes like I drink Smirnoff."
This caused us both to chuckle. But the irony of the situation wasn't lost on me. An easy calculation proved that I had consumed many more ounces of milkshake than she had Smirnoff. Oh the ironies in life.
So as I mentioned earlier, we watched Tangled but Nella has been listening to the soundtrack constantly for several weeks. She has listened to it enough that some of the songs have been stuck in my head and I know all the words. So while I was in the animal facility this week I was singing one of the songs and before I knew it this little girl with braids poked her head around the corner. One of the ladies that works in there had brought her daughter to work for a couple of hours. I finished the song and continued working with my animals. Soon I felt this tug on my shirt. I turned around and the little girl asked if I would sing that song with her. So we sang it and a couple others.
When we were done I asked her if she liked the movie. Her whole face lit up and she started to nod her enthusiastically. "Yeah, it's my favorite! Me and Mom have watched it four times since we got it from Wal-Mart yesterday! It makes me so happy! Do you have a dream?"
I automatically responded with a yes. We spent another half hour singing and talking about bunnies before her mom came and took her home. But her question if I had a dream has had me thinking. I realized that I have many dreams and so many have come true and many more are coming true right at this moment.
It was a shock to think that a year ago I was preparing to go to the temple to receive my endowment. I can't believe it's been a year! So much has happened and I've learned so much! Though I do miss the weekly trips I was making this summer; I've been able to go at least once a month out here.
Regular Temple Attendance. Check.
And I've always wanted a degree and for many years I've wanted to add the prefix doctor to my name. And I'm working on it! I love school (most days) and I love the research that I'm doing. I look forward to going to work everyday even when nothing goes right (which nothing has gone right this week). How many people can say that?
I have many dreams that I'm still waiting on and working towards but I had the ultimate feel good moment this week when I realized just how many of my dreams have came true and how close I am to fulfilling several others. I'm truly blessed!
Self-Esteem Boost. Double Check.
