Who gets lost while using a GPS?

On Friday, I went to the temple with my friend, Brinton. Brinton lives in Alexandria and my GPS takes me straight through the National Mall to get to the temple from there. And for those of you who don't know, the National Mall is not the ideal place to drive through on a Friday at 6pm. It took us around an hour and a half. It was totally worth it because it was an awesome session and Brinton took some awesome pictures (as seen above).
Our ordeal in getting to the temple gave us the motivation that we needed to try and take the beltway back to Alexandria. I'm not quite sure how we did it but we took a round about way to get back on the road we used to get there. But the GPS wasn't going to give us the way we used to get there on the way back once we were on this road. It had us turn into this tunnel that put us on a highway that had some road construction and the poorest marked exits in the dark. We missed four or five of our exits and turns. Operation See If We Can Back Faster had completely failed. We left the temple about 10:15pm and didn't get to Brinton's house until a few minutes before midnight. At least Brinton doesn't make fun of my driving.
Lessons learned: sometimes a fail safe route is best, GPS's lie, I now know where the Iwo Jima monument is, and if I'm hanging out with someone who criticizes my driving we're going to take public transportation.
Good thing I learned this lesson as my friend Ryan was getting into town. It will be public transportation for us while he is here. Thank Heavens!
